Time to Sleep

FOODS TO SLEEP ON

Come 10 pm, when the rest of the world is starting to wind down, you're winding up. Maybe it's something more, but it could be what you're eating (or not eating). Yahoo Health has created this list of the top 10 foods to help you get a good night's sleep.
Bananas. They're practically a sleeping pill in a peel. In addition to a bit of soothing melatonin and serotonin, bananas contain magnesium, a muscle relaxant.
Chamomile tea. The reason chamomile is such a staple of bedtime tea blends is its mild sedating effect - it's the perfect natural antidote for restless minds/bodies.
Warm milk. It's not a myth. Milk has some tryptophan - an amino acid that has a sedative - like effect - and calcium, which helps the brain use tryptophan. Plus there's the psychological throw-back to infancy, when a warm bottle meant "relax, everything's fine."
Honey. Drizzle a little in your warm milk or herb tea. Lots of sugar is stimulating, but a little glucose tells your brain to turn off orexin, a recently discovered neurotransmitter that's linked to alertness.
Potatoes. A small baked spud won't overwhelm your GI tract, and it clears away acids that can interfere with yawn-inducing tryptophan. To up the soothing effects, mash it with warm milk.
There's more so read more
Oatmeal. Oats are a rich source of sleep - inviting melatonin, and a small bowl of warm cereal with a splash of maple syrup is cozy - plus if you've got the munchies, it's filling too.
Almonds. A handful of these heart-healthy nuts can be snooze-inducing, as they contain both tryptophan and a nice dose of muscle-relaxing magnesium.
Flaxseeds. When life goes awry and feeling down is keeping you up, try sprinkling 2 tablespoons of these healthy little seeds on your bedtime oatmeal. They're rich in omega-3 fatty acids, a natural mood lifter.
Whole-wheat bread. A slice of toast with your tea and honey will release insulin, which helps tryptophan get to your brain, where it's converted to serotonin and quietly murmurs "time to sleep."
Turkey. It's the most famous source of tryptophan, credited with all those Thanksgiving naps. But that's actually modern folklore. Tryptophan works when your stomach's basically empty, not overstuffed, and when there are some carbs around, not tons of protein. But put a lean slice or two on some whole-wheat bread mid-evening, and you've got one of the best sleep inducers in your kitchen.

Fit's Tip: It's all about the serotonin and melatonin.
When it comes to a good night's sleep people are willing to try anything, so it's always nice to find out that nice things like reading a book or taking a warm bath can help you get a great night of rest. Add another great thing to that list: drinking cherry juice.
Tart cherries are the new super fruit, following the trends of Acai Berries and Pomegranates. Tart cherries have some of the highest levels of antioxidants in fruits as well as vitamin C, potassium, magnesium, folate, iron and fiber. They pack 19 times more beta carotene than blueberries or strawberries. Not only can tart cherries help ease the pain of arthritis and gout but they also reduce the risk factors of diabetes, heart disease and even certain cancers.
And how does the super fruit help you sleep better at night? Cherries contain melatonin, one of the naturally occurring brain chemicals that helps regulate sleep patterns. (more than strawberries) Drink a glass of unsweetened cherry juice before bed to get a boost in those sleep inducing chemicals.  AND MOST IMPORTANTLY, RELAX--CLEAR YOUR MIND OF EVERYTHING NEGATIVE, PROBLEMS, LISTS, AND THE PAST.

Sleepless Nights

Love is not supposed to make you cry,
if this is so then why do I?
Love is not supposed to make you sad,
then why is my heart feeling so bad?

I gave you my love
I gave you my heart,
I did not think,
from me you would part.

We sang, we danced
spending wonderful days together
that flew by so fast
while we were birds of a feather.

I do not know what I will do
during lonely days ahead.
I do know that life will be blue,
with sleepless nights, without you.

My Prayer

Tonight as you lay down to sleep
I pray God's love to softly keep
For all your dreams to gently say
How blessed your life has been today.

For though you're in my heart to stay
I'm sad that you're just too far away
God's tender arms will hold you close
For next to me, He's the one to love you most.

All I can send you is my prayer
And longings that I might be there
So, as you dream while fast asleep
Imagine when, the day we'll meet.

And then we'll hug and chat for long
Or maybe hush, cause we 'belong',
And closeness we will never miss
because together is eternal bliss.

Long Healthy Life With You

Garlic, used for medicinal as well as culinary purposes, has numerous qualities.   Garlic's history as an infection fighter runs long (it was used as an antibiotic during both World Wars) thanks to the sulfur-containing compounds in each clove, including powerful allicin, ajoene and thiosulfinates. The anitmicrobial effects of the garlic compound allicin are well-documented, including in a 2004 study in the British Journal of Biomedical Science, where researchers found the sulfinate effective against powerful, antibiotic resistant bacterial infections from Methicillin-resistant Staphylococcus aureus (MRSA).

The medical literature consistently shows that allicin is also active against drug-resistant E.coli infections, fungal infections (particularly oral and vaginal yeast infections), and parasites, including Giardia -- a common cause of traveler's diarrhea. Allicin also has antiviral properties.

It's important to note that these findings have been on the cellular level in a lab setting, rather than observed from human diets. But at least one clinical trial found that dietary garlic was useful in preventing colds

Allicin is only released when garlic cells are damaged (cutting, crushing, chewing) and is heat sensitive. Try adding some minced, raw garlic to a salad dressing.

In China, the garlic juice is used for bonding porcelain or glass.  Therefore, if you both smell of garlic you will bond and not have to run the other way!

Long Healthy Life With You

Doing things together, like dancing, or taking a walk are bonding experiences that can mean a longer happier life together with your significant other.  The strengthening benefits from having bonding experiences not only help the relationship but can also keep you healthy.  Laughter suppresses stress hormones and is the best medicine for ones health.  Laughter, like sex, lowers heart risk substantially with the HDL (“good” cholesterol) increased by about 26% and levels of heart harming inflammation drops by 66%.  Therefore, by spending time together, enjoying life with your loved one, not only in a sexual sense but also in experiencing activities together that bond and bring pleasure, you can add years to your life, suppress stress, and
live a longer happier
ever after.

Dreams

Today, Martin Luther King Day, we are reminded of "The Dream" where all men are created equal, and have every right to follow their dream.

Happy Monday-
In honor of MLK, here is one of my favorite poems:

Dreams

Hold fast to dreams
For if dreams die
Life is a broken-winged bird
That cannot fly.
Hold fast to dreams
For when dreams go
Life is a barren field
Frozen with snow.

Happy New Year!

At the stroke of midnight, some people cheered, hugged and kissed, others worked, and to some it was just another ordinary day.  However the new year was received, it is still a new year;  An excuse for new beginnings and bringing happiness into your life and the lives of those around you.

Open a new book today--forget all your worries and welcome 2012!

A New Year has come with new expectations, new opportunities, new challenges, and a whole new way of delighting people related to you.
Have a happy life and keep yourself healthy.
May we live in a world at peace and with the awareness of God's love in every sunset, every flower's unfolding petals, every baby's smile, every lover's kiss, and every wonderful, astonishing, miraculous beat of our heart.
Happy New Year!

Love,

Food for Pain

1. Ginger

Ginger's been used for thousands of years to help with a variety of ailments from stomachaches to heart conditions. This anti-inflammatory add-in is excellent on a variety of foods, even tea.

2. Sage

This anti-inflammatory herb has also been shown in some research to boost memory. Perfect in poultry dishes, sage has been used for centuries and contains flavonoids that help to reduce swelling.

3. Coffee

One cup of black coffee can provide relief from headaches and provide more antioxidants than a serving of berries. Preliminary research has also shown that drinking coffee may reduce the risk of some cancers.

4. Salmon

Filled with Omega-3s, salmon provides an excellent source of protein and antioxidants. The fatty acids from this fish can help to lubricate tight joints in the body.

5. Green Tea

Used for centuries for a variety of medicinal purposes, green tea is an excellent source of polyphenols which may help to reduce free radicals in the body which can cause inflammation.

6. Olive Oil

Here's a powerful anti-inflammatory ingredient that's comparable to over the counter pain medications. A staple of the Mediterranean diet, olive oil helps reduce the risk of strokes and some cancers.

7. Cherries

Cherries help reduce inflammation by neutralizing free radicals in the body. These tart, sweet treats can also help to stop tissue inflammation.
But wait...what about HEARTACHE????
Is there something that will cure a broken heart?

There comes a time in your life, when you walk away from all the drama and people who create it. You surround yourself with people who make you laugh. Forget the bad, and focus on the good. Love the people who treat you right, pray for the ones who don't. Life is too short to be anything but happy. Falling down is a part of life, getting back up is living.

Merry Christmas

Another year has come and gone,
before our very eyes
and hopefully we’re happy
and a little bit more wise.

Best wishes for Christmas
are being sent your way
filled with hope and promise
but not only for this day.

They’re sent with love for you,
The one I hold so dear
and hope they carry you through
another wonderful year.

Love,
